I had over 150 emails when I woke up this morning. Large businesses have no problem asking for your money. They don’t seem to have any guilt contacting you daily, sometimes multiple times a day, to remind you that they’re there waiting for your financial support.
Why do Small Businesses experience this guilt? Why do we feel obligated to discount our goods and services for our friends and family, in order to ‘earn’ their support? Worse so, why do our own people often expect a discount in order to support us? It’s a very strange cycle.
I was in direct sales for over a decade before I ventured into Coaching and Contract work. I’ve had dozens of friends in direct sales over the years. I have friends that are photographers, personal trainers, crafters, cleaners and more. We offer sales and specials regularly in order to entice clients and support because we feel the need to over-deliver.
New clients need to get to know us in order to feel safe giving us their money. We need to earn their respect, loyalty, and patronage, especially when we’re newer. We don’t have decades of deliverables to show them. If we make a wrong step, they may hold it against us. Often they hold these transgressions against us much more harshly than they do the larger companies. Shouldn’t it be the opposite? Shouldn’t the people who know us want to support us more, give us more opportunities to build ourselves up and flex our professional muscles?
Below are links to some of the most important small businesses in my life right now. There are so many more but these are the people who personally have touched my life, supported me through the transitions in my life and deserve my eternal support. I encourage you to check them out, share and support.

Remember, small businesses deserve your support more than ever. If you financially cannot support, you can share posts. You many refer your friends for their services. You can interact with their social media posts. Algorithms are working against us. If you don’t like, respond and share our posts, you won’t see them anymore, your friends won’t see them any more.
What are some of your favorite small businesses? Where will you show your support this season?
