If you look at us on the surface, we are very different women. We have different backgrounds and lifestyles. We are very different athletes. Her current mile PR time is almost half mine. At the Running Clinic this past weekend, she said she’s run more half marathons than she can count while I can still tell you in painful detail about the 4 that I’ve survived, lol. The longest run I’ve completed with Amelia in the stroller is currently a 10K while Irina once completed an 18 mile training run with her daughter in the stroller.
When Irina first reached out to me, I admit that I was nervous. I knew her only by reputation and speed. As a new Coach and less accomplished athlete, I questioned what I would bring to the ‘friendship table’ (more on this in the next blog). I soon learned that she just has an amazing heart and wanted to support another Mother, who was also a runner and wants to be a great Coach. As she recently told me, “We need more of us out here!” And she is right. That is exactly why I became a Coach. We deserve to look around and see more people who look and think like us in the community.
Athletes who are looking for a Coach may have a gut reaction as to which one of us can best suit their needs. However, as I spend more time with her, I can tell you that while we may have very different Coaching profiles and backgrounds, we are quickly becoming great friends because we have quite a few things in common.
In no particular order:
- Family First
We both started our businesses out of necessity and because we saw a need that needed to be filled. We wanted to spend more time with our children as well as take care of our communities.
- Yes you can achieve whatever you desire
- Stop telling Moms they can’t do something
- Stop telling yourself you can’t do something
- Mom’s need and deserve support
- Share more positivity and less negativity
If we want your help, guidance and corrections, we’ll ask for them
- Give generosity to the world and it will come back to you
- Speed is relative. If both of your feet are off the ground at the same time, you are a runner!
- Strength training is important. The tools are optional, not the time.
- Start today and use whatever tools you have
- You may be busy but you’ll make the time if it’s really important to you
- It’s ok to over deliver when you’re leading from your heart
- If the only way you can show up is by bringing your kids, BRING THEM! Read # 5 again!
We look at the world with our hearts wide open. We look for people and situations that can benefit from our knowledge, love and support. While we all need to work to feed our families, we work with passion to make tomorrow just a little bit better for those within arms reach. We’re open for new athletes because we want to help you achieve your goals. We know that individually, we may not be the best Coach for everyone, but we can help almost everyone find the Coach that will best support their individual goals!
