I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s okay if you are your own loudest cheerleader. This can apply to running but we’re talking about everyday life here. You want to feel like the people around you are cheering for you and supporting you. You want to know that other people see your progress, strength, passion and drive. And you deserve to feel those things.
But if today, you’re looking to celebrate your accomplishments and find that no one else is cheering, cheer for yourself.
- Keep a celebration journal close by to document the great days and accomplishments
- Reward yourself with a gift. Buy your own flowers
- Brag on your favorite social media platform and disable comments. (This is for your memories, not anyone else’s opinion)
- Take a celebratory walk, meal, massage
- Call a friend who you know will celebrate with you even though they didn’t ‘witness’ the accomplishment
- Write a letter to the younger version of you and tell them what you’ve achieved
No one truly knows what it takes to be you and to do the things that you do, better than you do. We cannot hear the demons that you’re fighting. We do not know what it feels like in your body when you show up for yourself and all of the responsibilities that you have. Only you can feel the weight of the bricks that you drag behind you through every mile, every task and every goal. You have to be the loudest one cheering because only you truly know how damn amazing you are.
I absolutely believe that we all deserve a proper Circle of Support (see my previous blogs about it).The village that it takes to raise healthy, strong, supported children does not go away when we become adults. We thrive off of a supportive village throughout our entire lives. Your village should be made up of people who complement each other in strengths, achievements and accomplishments. If your entire village contains brick layers and no one knows how to harvest and prepare food, you’re going to be some poorly nourished manual laborers, right? The same thing applies to life. If your current village, or Circle of Support, looks and acts like you, you may find yourself floundering when you need support that looks different. If your entire village is working towards similar goals, they may be so buried in their own labor that they cannot see the value of yours. This is when you have to remember to look outside of them.
Look into yourself and celebrate what it’s taken you to get here today. Look to someone else and celebrate each other. Look around and make sure your circle is diverse in as many ways as possible. Do you have supporters that have different interests and goals than you do? Do you have supporters that have different skill sets than you do? How are you showing up as the supporter in their lives?
The fact that you’ve made it this far is confirmation enough that you are a magnificent person. Celebrate you. Keep fighting for you. Keep working towards your goals. You deserve to feel proud. You deserve to celebrate your accomplishments. You are not alone!
