Here it comes. Jan 1st is fast approaching. You’re evaluating 2025 and making goals for 2026. I’m 200% behind you setting goals for the new year and having dreams for your future. I’m NOT behind you thinking there is something inherently wrong with you and that you need a NEW YOU in order to achieve those goals.
If your goals are to be bigger, grander, more accomplished in 2026, there are definitely things that you need to change. But YOU as a whole are amazing just the way you are.
You may need a stronger you or a more educated you.
You may need a more dedicated you.
You probably need a healthier you (and nope, this has nothing to do with what you weigh)
You definitely need a more regulated and rested you.
You probably need a better supported you.
Great questions that I invite you to consider as you’re preparing your goals:
- What’s on your heart?
- What goals have you been dreaming about?
- What trips do you want to take in 2026?
- What’s on your Dream Board?
- What races or new distances do you want to conquer?
1. What habits do you need to develop in order to become the person who does these things?
“What got you here won’t get you there.” I’ve heard this phrase at least a dozen times in the last month. But the fact is, it’s true. If you’re not 100% satisfied with where your life is right now, you can’t keep doing the things that you’ve done in the last 5 years that got you here. You have to change your routine, learn new practices, practice stacking and strategies to make incremental changes in your life.
2. How can you strengthen and prepare your body?
If your goals involve additional movement, endurance, or adventure, you have to work on physically and mentally preparing your body for those adventures. If you want honest longevity, including the ability to care for yourself in old age, you must strengthen your body now so that you’re able to do more later.
3. How can you improve your health and remove the focus on your weight?
Study after study reminds us that focusing on your weight NEVER works. You are more than just the sum of all of your parts. Focusing on eating the foods that support your body, honoring your body’s needs, allergies and inflammatory factors will have a far greater influence on your body than trying to survive in a calorie deficit all of the time. There are goals, health conditions, surgeries, costs of clothing, etc that might motivate your weight goals but the solitary focus on your weight is unhealthy in the grander sense. Set movement goals. Return to #2 and set strength goals. Focus on your mental health and see how much better you feel.
4. Where do you need to prioritize rest, relaxation and sleep?
You CANNOT function from the zone of exhaustion, overwhelm and burnout and expect to achieve greatness. Your mind and body are not functioning at full capacity if you’re exhausted. Where can you take some things off of your to-do list, delegate, rearrange and take care of yourself. Your power will multiply immensely when you can operate from a regulated and rested zone.
5. Who can you count on to support and encourage you along the way to your goals?
Who is in your circle of support? Do you have friends, family, partners, etc that you can share your goals with? Can you share the actual activities that will get you closer to your goals with these people? Do you need to find new people? The running groups that I’ve been a part of for the last 3 years have had such a profound effect on my mental and physical health that I helped found a new one this year. I became a coach so that I could be part of an environment that gives women affordable access to the support that they deserve. As a curvy, masters athlete of color that generally runs at the back-of-the-pack, I know what it’s like to show up to fitness events and feel like you don’t belong so I vowed to be a welcoming presence for others who felt like me. I am here to cheer for you, support you and encourage you in every way that I can.
You deserve to start 2026 with a clear plan of where you’d like to go. Even if you’re not ready to lay out the entire road map with all of your stops, adventures and detours, can we make a plan for the first 20%? Take the time to regulate your nervous system and then really think about what you’d like to achieve if you were navigating from the best place possible.
I look back at memories from January 25 and I know that I started the year on the right foot. I took chances on myself. I showed up. I surrounded myself with the people and opportunities that I needed to grow into the woman of my dreams. I also chose a word for the year and started living, being and believing how FIERCE I was.

And if you’re still not sure where you’re going, that’s okay. You took the first step by reading this far. Take the second step by sitting with yourself for a few minutes and see what pops up. If you’re a writer like I am, sit with a blank piece of paper in front of you and a pen. Take a few cleansing breaths and brain dump. You might surprise yourself with what ends up on the paper.
Lastly, remember, you’re not alone. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Near or Far, I’m here for you. There are people cheering for you that you just haven’t heard yet. Reach out. Ask for help. Accept the help that is offered. You’ve got this!!
