We’ve been talking a lot about fear lately. Because life is scary!
The most pressing concerns in the community around me? Fear of running. Fear of falling. Fear of failing. Fear of being the last to finish. Fear of not finishing at all. Fear of being judged while running?
I’ve been very honest lately about a lot of the fears I face, the ones I’ve overcome and the ones that I still struggle with.
While thinking on this, I saw an image that we’ve all seen 100 times and it made me laugh.

This means something different for runners. It’s not an OR. It can be an AND.
Beyond having the fear of running, many of us face our fears by getting out for the run! It’s not about running from your responsibilities or fears. It’s about creating the space that you need in your head and heart to face them better.
You’re struggling with work. You’re overwhelmed by life. You’re working through a challenge. You get out for a run and it helps you process these experiences in a different way.
And then when you get home, you can face everything and rise. Running is the way some of us regulate our nervous systems so that we’re prepared to get through the rest of our day.
When you face the scary thing, and survive, it makes it easier to face it again next time right? We’re reprograming our brains everyday. We’re teaching our bodies what accomplishment and safety feel like. We’re putting in the reps to make ourselves stronger for tomorrow.
What fears are you facing today? When fears do you need to strengthen yourself to face?
