
When I agreed to run with her, she said she had 12 miles on the plan. That was the maximum I imagined running that day. I let the voices get to me and I was planning the finish before we even began.

For many of us, that voice is not actually our own. It’s the resounding chorus of everyone who has ever put us down throughout our lifetimes.

As adults, we settle into a routine. We establish careers. We build families and friend circles that don’t change regularly. We’re not greeted with regular opportunities to learn or face our limitations. We have to actively seek new opportunities and we get to choose whether to face our fears or walk away.
